Eton FR160

Here is my recently bought Eton FR160. Although it's a radio I purchased it primarily for the handcrank phone charger for use in the field. I don't think the electronic configuration allows the solar cell to charge the phone. other companies make pure solar cell phone chargers, but they cost much more than the $30 the FR160 costs. Although it worked fine upon initial opening, after leaving it in the sun on my balcony for the day to charge the battery, it stopped working. after some mechanical agitation, it worked again.
I can't return it now because I need it.
Two messages for Eton:
1. don't make products that don't work reliably
2. make a solar/handcrank device designed specifically to charge phones via USB.
